A ceremony to support the national people's mass rallies denouncing SURA and KNU insurgents, who are encroaching upon the security and peaceful situation in border areas, and to show respect for sovereignty of the Union of Myanmar was held at the People's Sports Grounds in Myitkyina, Kachin State, on 11 June morning.

It was attended by local people from wards in Myitkyina, Kachin State, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross Society, Auxiliary Fire Brigade, War Veterans Organization, Women's Affairs Committee Maternal and Child Welfare Association, band troupes of basic education high schools in Myitkyina, the State Flag bearing troupes, teachers and students.

Led by the State Flag bearing troupes and band troupes, the people from the assembly points of the No 1 BEHS, the gymnasium, Manaw grounds in Sitapu Ward and Nyeinchanthaya Sports Grounds in Thida Ward marched into the People's Sports Grounds from the respective routes.

The people of Myitkyina proudly hoisted the State flags to show respect for sovereignty of the Union of Myanmar.

Secretary of Waingmaw Township USDA U Min Kyi acted as master of ceremonies.

Those present saluted the State Flag. Executive of Ayeya Ward USDA of Myitkyina Township Ma Ei Ei Kyi explained the purpose of holding the ceremony.

She said that she would like to present why those present assembled at the People's Sports Grounds, why they held the State Flag hoisting ceremony and why the people in Kachin State hoisted the State flags.

She said we brethren in Kachin State assembled here to support the mass rallies denouncing SURA and KNU insurgents held in Kengtung and Taunggyi on 1 and 2 June respectively by the local nationals abhorring the encroachment of the insurgents on the sovereignty of the Union of Myanmar.

The meeting at the grounds and saluting the State Flag indicate that the people do not accept the encroachment on the sovereignty of the State. The traitorous KNU and SURA insurgents taking footholds in Yodaya were making a series of attacks in various parts of the border areas.

The people with ardent nationalist spirit are not looking on with indifference on the encroachment upon the security and peaceful life of border areas and sovereignty of the State launched under the assistance of Yodaya. The people in Kachin State are opposing and denouncing the opium-trafficking insurgents in order to support the mass rallies held in Kengtung and Taunggyi.

The State flags are being hoisted in the entire Myitkyina as a symbol of People's respect for sovereignty of the State. It also symbolises the rejection of the encroachment on Myanmar's sovereignty by the neighbouring country.

All the people are to safeguard the benefits gained as a result of peace, and that the national brethren are to oppose and denounce bravely with high spirit whenever the sovereignty of the State is harmed, whenever the national unity is disintegrated, and whenever security and tranquility of the State is encroached in any way by any groups and whenever pressure is put from out side.

To enable the nation to stand shoulder to shoulder with the nations of the world she called on all the national races to ward off the dangers and uphold the perpetuation of sovereignty with ardent nationalist spirit.

Then, Representative of USDA Executive of Myitkyina District USDA U Zoan Chan said that all national races have supported a series of mass rallies denouncing the encroachment on sovereignty of the State.

The hoisting of the State flags in Myitkyina and gathering of the people to salute the State Flag show that we do not accept the encroachment on sovereignty of the State by the foreign nation. Myanmar is standing tall with prestige among the world's nations and it is home to various national races who have been living through thick and thin keeping egg and nest intact. It has always been on good terms with neighbours and it has never interfered in their internal affairs. Myanmar has been existing peacefully with neighbours while perpetuating its own sovereignty.

The people are furious at the encroachment upon the national sovereignty. Thus people of Kachin State support mass rallies to denounce the insurgents and external destructive elements which were held in Kengtung and Taunggyi on 1 and 2 June 2002 respectively. We the people of Kachin State fully support these mass rallies. Since early 2001, the KNU and SURA drug-trafficking insurgent destructionists taking the footholds in the other country have been launching a series of attacks along the border areas. We, the national races in Kachin State hereby support the mass rallies held to denounce the encroachment on security and peaceful life of border areas by the insurgents. We hold this rally also to show respect for the sovereignty of the Union of Myanmar. Yodaya is a neighbour situated in the east of our country. When Myanmar built the First Myanmar Naing-Ngan with Bagan as the centre, Yodaya was merely a city state. It was established as a country about 200 years later than Myanmar. Yodaya people naturally are fond of attractions and worldly pleasures. They think highly of western culture and lack the will to rely on themselves and are afraid of hard work. Hence, their traditional norms and patriotic spirit are fading away. Since 1960s, expatriates who absconded from the country for their greed for power, those who had violated laws and insurgents who launched armed insurrection with external instigations to disintegrate the Union have been able to move about freely in Yodaya.

Since September 1988, expatriates of Myanmar, absconders and insurgents have been moving about in Yodaya under the name of refugees with the assistance of the West bloc.

The neo-colonialists who want to destroy and harm our country and western media have been instigating the drug trafficking SURA insurgents led by Ywet Sit. In this way, they are estroying the interests of the national peoples in Shan State.

On 20 May this year, Panmaisun, Pangangaw, Yanpaingsun and Nyaung-bingon outposts at Myanmar border were attacked blatantly with the support of artillery and tanks. What I would like to stress is that Yodaya is harbouring some national traitors of Myanmar and sowing discord among our national peoples. Yodaya is also providing them with arms, food, shelter and assistance in recruitment. It is known to all Myanmar people.

Not only encroaching on our national sovereignty and harming the good conditions in prevalence of peace and stability but also harbouring and providing assistance to the insurgents who are attempting to hinder our endeavours to build up the nation into a modern and developed one, it can clearly be seen that Yodaya is trying hard to undermine our country to become its lackey. The neighbouring country Yodaya is conducting manoeuvres involving many troops every year along Myanmar border. It seems to be a military threat against our country and an insult to our country. It is to be assumed that Yodaya's activities are posing a national danger against our country.

We have to put in the fore the uplift of our national prestige and integrity and to value the national sovereignty as our lives. Every citizen has the duty to safeguard territorial integrity with ardent nationalist spirit.

Nowadays in Kachin State, developments are being achieved as a result of the prevalence of peace. These rapid developments are to be maintained with full nationalist spirit. Likewise, we must make collective efforts with full patriotism, firm dedication and alertness for enabling Myanmar to stand tall with dignity and prestige among the world's nations.

I would like to emphatically say that we the entire national peoples oppose and denounce all those who encroach on the national sovereignty; all the destructive acts of the insurgent destructionists; the traitorous insurgents and those who are assisting them; those who are harming our country out of the framework of law and those who are stealthily or blatantly connecting with them; and any attempt to hinder the developments by defaming the prestige of our country with pessimism. Let's bravely annihilate all the encroachments on and insulations to our territorial integrity and national sovereignty in the course of marching towards a modern and developed nation.

which brought the ceremony to an end.
