LPDR Vice-President sends congratulatory
message to Vice-Senior General Maung Aye
YANGON, 4 Jan—The following is the message sent by Mr Choummaly
Xayasone, Vice-President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic
to Vice-Senior General Maung Aye, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace
and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar on the occasion of
the 57th Anniversary Independence Day.
Your Excellency,
On the auspicious occasion of the 57th Anniversary of the
Independence Day of the Union of Myanmar, I have a great pleasure
to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to Your
Excellency.
I am delighted to note that the friendly relations and good
neighborly cooperation existing between our two countries Laos and

Indonesian Vice-President sends congratulatory
message to Vice-Senior General Maung Aye
YANGON, 4 Jan—The following is the message sent by Mr Muhammad
Jusuf Kalla, Vice- President of the Republic of Indonesia to
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye, Vice-Chairman of the State Peace
and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar on the occasion of
the 57th Anniversary Independence Day.
Your Excellency,
I am greatly pleased to extend to you my cordial greetings and
sincerest felicitations on the happy celebration of the
Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Union of Myanmar.
It is my firm belief that while working together on a bilateral
basis as well as on international fora, Myanmar and Indonesia will
be able to contribute significantly to the cause of regional as
well as international peace and prosperity.

266 drug-related cases exposed in November
YANGON, 3 Jan — The Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and the Customs
Department exposed 266 drug-related cases in November 2004.
The authorities seized 10.063 kilos of opium in 27 cases, 8.7137
kilos of heroin in 102 cases, 0.356 kilos of opium in 13 cases,
6.5905 kilos of low-grade opium in 17 cases, 9.8923 kilos of
marijuana in 17 cases, 165,981 stimulant tablets in 55 cases,
0.084 kilo of speciosa in one case, 0.005 kilo of stimulant ice,
two tablets of ecstasy in one case, 236 litres of chemical liquid
in one case, 16 kilos of chemical powder, 24 cases of failure to
register and eight other cases.
Action was taken against 380 people in 266 cases — 316 men and 64
women in November.
