Sri Lankan Prime Minister sends felicitations
to Prime Minister Lt-Gen Soe Win
YANGON 8 Jan — The following is a message of felicitations from
Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist
Republic of Sri Lanka, sent to Lt-Gen Soe Win, Prime Minister of
the Union of Myanmar, on the occasion of the 57th Anniversary
Independence Day of the Union of Myanmar.
Excellency,
I have great pleasure to congratulate Your Excellency on the happy
occasion of the Independence Day of the Union of Myanmar.
It is my fervent hope that the existing ties of friendship and
co-operation between our two countries will be further
strengthened and enhanced in the future.
May I take this opportunity to extend to Your Excellency, my best

Commander and mayor inspect proper drainage,
reconstruction of pavements
YANGON, 8 Jan— Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development
Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Chairman of
Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin
and officials inspected cleanliness, proper drainage and
reconstruction of pavements in the city this morning.
Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe, Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin and
officials inspected tarring on Alanpya Phaya Road between Bogyoke
Aung San Street and Yawmingyi Road in Dagon Township, sanitation
work and reconstruction of pavement at the corner of Maha Bandoola
Street and Sule Pagoda Road and sanitation work in Pabedan
Township.
The commander and party inspected paving with concrete tiles in
front of the Pyithu Hluttaw Building, planting of flowers, tarring
of roads, sanitation work in Sangyoung, Yankin and North Okkalapa
Townships.
They also inspected paving of road and construction of bridge
across Toegyounggalay Creek in Dagon Myothit (North).
Head of Engineering Department (Roads/Bridges) of YCDC U Bo Htay
and officials explained the work done.
The commander and the mayor told the officials to finish the
upgrading of roads and pavements in time and to supervise the
work.

1st South-East Asia Archery Judges Seminar held
YANGON, 8 Jan — The 1st South-East Asia Archery Judges Seminar was
held at Olympic Hotel on Waizayata Road in Thingangyun Township
this morning with an opening speech by President of the South-East
Asia Archery Federation Mr Sanguan Kosavinta.
Vice-President of South-East Asia Archery Federation President of
Myanmar Archery Federation Dr Khin Shwe extended greetings on the
occasion.
A lecture was given in the seminar to 20 judges from Indonesia,
Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar to be advanced
international judges and the seminar will continue up to 9
January.
