Senior General Than Shwe enjoys Tatmadaw (Army,
Navy and Air) Golf Tournament
YANGON, 9 Jan — The Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Golf Tournament
for Defence Services Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy 2004-2005
commenced yesterday morning at the Tatmadaw Golf Course in
Mingaladon Township.
Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and
Development Council and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services,
enjoyed the tournament.
Present at the opening ceremony were Vice-Chairman of the State
Peace and Development Council, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of
Defence Services, and Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior
General Maung Aye, member of the State Peace and Development
Council General Thura Shwe Mann of the Ministry of Defence, Prime
Minister Lt-Gen Soe Win, State Peace and Development Council
Secretary-1 and Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thein Sein, SPDC members
Lt-Gen Ye Myint, Lt-Gen Aung Htwe, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than, Lt-Gen
Maung Bo of the Ministry of Defence, Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen
Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, and Lt-Gen Tin Aye of the Ministry
of Defence, Commander-in-Chief (Navy)
Vice-Admiral Soe Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Myat Hein,
Yangon Division PDC Chairman and Yangon Command Commander Maj-Gen
Myint Swe, the ministers, senior military officers, and golfers
from 15 teams. Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party cordially
greeted the golfers.
Next, Vice-Senior General Maung Aye, General Thura Shwe Mann,
Prime Minister Lt-Gen Soe Win, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Thein Sein,
Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Soe Thein, and
Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Myat Hein opened the golf
tournament by teeing off golf balls. Vice-Senior General Maung Aye
and General Thura Shwe Mann, Prime Minister Lt-Gen Soe Win and
Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Thein Sein, and SPDC members and ministers took
part in the tournament in pair. The day-one competition was 18
holes.
Today, the second and last day of the tournament, Senior General
Than Shwe arrived at the golf course, where he inspected the shops
selling golf gear, foodstuff, books and leatherware. He also
watched Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party playing golf in
the competition.
In the evening, the prize-presentation was held. Present were
Vice-Senior General Maung Aye, General Thura Shwe Mann, Prime
Minister Lt-Gen Soe Win, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Thein Sein, senior
military officers and others.
Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Soe Thein presented third
prize to the Coastal Region Command team, second prize to the
Commander-in-Chief (Air)’s Office team, and first prize to the
Eastern Command team in the handicap event.
Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Myat Hein presented third prize to
the South-West Command team, second prize to the Yangon Command
team, and first prize to the Commander-in-Chief’s Office (Navy)
team at the scratch event.
Lt-Gen Ye Myint presented third prize to Major Than Oo of the
Yangon Command team, second prize to Lt-Col Min Zaw of the Eastern
Command team, and first prize to Major Than Htaik of the Eastern
Command team at the single handicap event.
Lt-Gen Aung Htwe presented awards to Maj Than Htaik of Eastern
Command who stood third with 163 strokes, Lt Maung Maung Myint of
the Commander-in-Chief (Navy)’s Office who stood second with 162
and Lt Zaw Min of the Commander-in-Chief (Navy)’s Office who stood
first with 159 in the scratch event.
Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than presented prizes to those with highest
points in Pa, Birdie and Eagle; Lt-Gen Maung Bo, the best winners
of the single handicap event and single scratch event. Next,
Quartermaster General Lt-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and
Chief of Armed Forces Training Lt-Gen Kyaw Win also presented
other prizes to winners.
On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services,
Secretary-1 Adjutant General Lt-Gen Thein Sein presented the
championship shields to the Commander-in-Chief (Navy)’s Office
which stood first with total strokes of 656 in the scratch event
and the Eastern Command which stood first with total strokes of
529 in the handicap event. After the ceremony, Vice-Chairman of
the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief
of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General
Maung Aye and party cordially greeted the golfers who participated
in the golf tourney.
Next, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council
Lt-Gen Thein Sein and party had a documentary photo taken together
with athletes of Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Office and the Eastern
Command that won championship trophies at the golf tourney.

Dinner hosted to victorious sports teams of
Yangon Command
YANGON, 9 Jan—A dinner was hosted in honour of athletes from
volleyball, hockey, tennis, wushu and rowing sports teams of
Yangon Command which emerged champions at the 2004
Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services’ Trophy Tatmadaw (Army,
Navy and Air) Sports Meets at the command yesterday evening,
attended by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development
Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Myint Swe and wife Daw
Khin Thet Htay. Also present on the occasion were Pricinpal of the
National Defence College Maj-Gen Moe Hein, Deputy Commander of
Yangon Command Brig-Gen Wai Lwin and wife, military region
commanders and their wives, Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and
Development Council Lt-Col Myint Kyi and departmental officials
and their wives, chairmen of the District Peace and Development
Councils and their wives, senior military officers of Yangon
Command and their wives, team managers, coaches, athletes,
well-wishers and guests.
First, victorious sports teams handed over championship trophies
to the commander who presented cash awards to them.
Next, the commander made a speech.
Later, Managing Director of Mingalar Co Ltd U Zaw Min and Managing
Director of American Vision Spectacles Co U Thein Hla presented K
500,000 each for sports teams of Yangon Command through the
commander.
After the ceremony, Commander Maj-Gen Myint Swe and wife Daw Khin
Thet Htay hosted a dinner to athletes and guests who were present
on the occasion.

Delivering of sermons commences for
construction of monastery in France
YANGON, 9 Jan — A ceremony was opened to start delivering sermons
at Abhidhamma Dhamma Beikman on Bahan Road in Bahan Township on 3
January evening. It was organized by the committee for
construction of Theravadha Buddhist Missionary Monastery in Paris,
France.
The ceremony was graced by the attendance of French Sayadaw
Kyunnantha Ashin Nandasiri and Dhammazedi Sayadaw Ashin Kosalla.
The Dhammazedi Sayadaw expressed thanks to wellwishers for their
contributions for the construction of the monastery, and delivered
a sermon to the congregation. Next, alms were offered to the
Sayadaws.
Up to this date, the donations have amounted to over K 107.1
