Senior General Than Shwe sends message of
sympathy to Indonesian President
YANGON, 29 March — Messages of sympathy have been sent from
Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union
of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe to President of Indonesia Dr H
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, from Vice-Chairman of the State Peace
and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Vice-Senior
General Maung Aye to Vice President of Indonesia Mr Jusuf Kalla,
from Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar Lt-Gen Soe Win to
President of Indonesia Dr H Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and from
Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Myanmar, U Nyan Win
to Foreign Minister of Indonesia Dr N Hassan Wirajuda for the
extensive loss of life and property suffered by Indonesia as a
result of the powerful earthquake that occurred off the coast of
Sumatra, Indonesia on 28 March 2005.

Curriculum Vitae of His Excellency Mr Lee Hsien Loong,
Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore
His Excellency Mr Lee Hsien Loong was born on 10 February 1952. He
was educated in Nanyang Primary School, Catholic High School and
National Junior College. He was graduated in 1974 with First Class
Honours in Mathematics and a Diploma in Computer Science from the
University of Cambridge of the United Kingdom. He also obtained a
Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University
of America in 1980.
He joined the Singapore Armed Forces in 1971 and served in various
capacities up to the rank of Brigadier General until 1984 when he
joined in politics in 1984. He was elected as a Member of
Parliament from the People’s Action Party (PAP) in 1984 and
re-elected in 1988, 1991, 1997 and 2001. After serving as a member
of Central Executive Committee, Second Assistant Secretary-General
and First Assistant Secretary-General of the PAP, he has been
promoted as Secretary-General of the party in December 2004.
He was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Trade and
Industry and the Ministry of Defence in 1984. He was promoted to
Acting Minister for Trade and Industry in 1986 and confirmed as
full Minister in 1987. He became concurrently Second Minister for
Defence at the same time.
On 12 August 2004, he succeeded Mr Goh Chok Tong as Prime
Minister. He retains his post as Minister for Finance. His
Excellency Mr Lee Hsien Loong is married to Madame Ho Ching. They
have three sons and one daughter.

U Soe Myint presents
credentials to President of Turkey
YANGON, 30 March — U Soe Myint, Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Union of Myanmar to the Republic of Trukey,
presented his Credentials to His Excellency Mr Ahmet Sezer,
President of the Republic of Turkey, on 30 March 2005, in Ankara.

MWAF President receives
adviser to JICA
YANGON, 29 March — Chairperson of Myanmar Women’s Affairs
Federation Daw Than Than Nwe received adviser to Japan
International Cooperation Agency-JICA Ms Yumiko Tanaka and Ms
Takamatsu Kana of JICA Myanmar Office at the hall of the
federation on Thanlwin Road here at 11 am today.
Present at the call were Vice-President of MWAF Daw Khin Lay Myint,
head of organizing division Dr Daw Nyunt Nyunt Oo, head of
international relation division Daw Myint Myint Soe,
joint-secretary Daw Khin Htar May, second leader of international
relation division Prof Daw Myint Kyi, group leader of education
Daw Min Thet Mon.
During their meeting, the two sides discussed functions of MWAF
and cooperation with JICA.
