  1. Senior General Than Shwe accepts credentials of ROK Ambassador

    YANGON, 6 May — Mr Lee Ju-Heum, newly accredited Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Union of Myanmar, presented his credentials to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, at Zeyathiri Beikman, Kon-myinttha, at 10 am today.

    Also present on the occasion were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Thein Sein, Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Thu and U Maung Myint and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.

    YANGON, 6 May — Mr Tran Van Tung, newly accredited Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Union of Myanmar, presented his credentials to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, at Zeyathiri Beikman, Konmyinttha, at 10.30 am today.

    Also present on the occasion were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Thein Sein, Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Thu and U Maung Myint and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.

  3. Philippine Minister leaves for home

    YANGON, 6 May — Minister for Forestry Brig-Gen Thein Aung saw off Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Mr Michael T Defensor and party of the Philippines at Yangon International Airport this morning.

    While in Myanmar, the guest minister discussed cooperation for mutual interests with officials of the Ministry of Forestry and National Commission for Environmental Affairs, UMFCCI and Myanmar Timber Entrepreneurs Association.

  4. Myanmar delegation leaves for Malaysia

    YANGON, 6 May — A Myanmar delegation led by Acting Managing Director Daw Mya Mya of Printing and Publishing Enterprise of the Ministry of Information left here by air this afternoon to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting on the Advancement of Women to be held in Putrajaya of Malaysia from 7 to 10 May.

    The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, departmental heads and officials.

    Acting Managing Director Daw Mya Mya of PPE was accompanied by Director U Myint Thein and Deputy Director Daw Khin Htar May of Social Welfare Department.

  5. General Officer Commanding of 3rd Corps of Indian Armed Forces and wife and
    party visit Shwedagon, Defence Services Museum

    YANGON, 6 May — The visiting goodwill delegation led by General Officer Commanding of 3rd Corps of Indian Armed Forces Lt-Gen Daljeet Singh and wife, accompanied by officials of the Ministry of Defence, Military Attache Col Jasvinder Singh Chopra from Indian Embassy to Myanmar, visited the Shwedagon Pagoda. They were welcomed there by members of the Board of Trustees of the pagoda and officials.

    Lt-Gen Daljeet Singh and wife and party offered flowers, lights and joss sticks and paid homage to the Buddha images. Next, Lt-Gen Daljeet Singh signed Visitors’ Book and donated cash. Members of Board of Trustees accepted the donation and presented a picture of the Shwedagon pagoda as a souvenir.

    Afterwards, Lt-Gen Daljeet Singh and wife and party proceeded to Defence Services Museum. They were welcomed by Deputy Director of the Defence Services Museum and Historical Institute Lt-Col Zaw Win and officials and conducted round the booths of the museum. Next, Lt-Gen Daljeet Singh signed Visitors’ Book and left the museum.
