Prime Minister on inspection tour of Myitnge Carriage and Wagon Workshop,
Ywahtaung Diesel Locomotive Shed
NAY PYI TAW, 26 Sept — Prime Minister General Soe Win went on
an inspection tour of Myitnge Carriage and Wagon Workshop of Myanma Railways of
the Ministry of Rail Transportation, Amarapura, Mandalay Division on 23
September and Ywahtaung Diesel Locomotive Shed, Sagaing Township, Sagaing
Division on 24 September and gave instructions to fulfill the requirements
during his tour.
Accompanied by Members of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Ye Myint and Lt-Gen Kyaw Win, Chairman of Mandalay Division PDC
Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw, ministers, departmental heads,
Prime Minister General Soe Win visited Myitnge Carriage and Wagon Workshop on 23
September.
First, Minister for Rail Transportation Maj-Gen Aung Min
briefed the Prime Minister and party on matters relating to Myitnge Carriage and
Wagon Workshop and General Manager U Tun Oo on functions and accomplishments of
the workshop, and the workshop’s progress in realizing the guidance given by
Head of State Senior General Than Shwe during his tour, upgrading of carriages,
innovative means to save foreign exchange, renovation of coaches presented by
the People’s Republic of China as goodwill gifts to be used on the railroads
across the country.
Next, Deputy Minister Thura U Thaung Lwin gave a
supplemen-tary report. In connection with the reports, the Prime Minister asked
questions to get further details and stressed the need for manufacturing of
comfortable passenger coaches and wagons by the workshop. As the Myitnge
workshop already have experience and technology, the workshop should run the
entire process of carriages apart from major repairs, added the Prime Minister.
Afterwards, the Prime Minister and party inspected scale
models of the passenger coaches renovated by the workshop. Next, Minister Maj-Gen
Aung Min and responsible personnel explained facts about the carriage parts
manufactured by the workshop, experiments for production of coach parts,
carriage linking parts produced by the workshop, bogies used at passenger coach
and upper-class seats. The Prime Minister also heard reports on production of
passenger coaches.
Next, the Prime Minister and party looked into renovation of
passenger coaches presented by the People’s Republic of China as gifts.
Accompanied by Chairman of Sagaing Division PDC Commander of
North-West Command Maj-Gen Tha Aye and Chairman of Mandalay Division PDC
Comman-der of Central Command Maj-Gen Khin Zaw, Prime Minister General Soe Win
and party went on an inspection tour of Ywahtaung Diesel Locomotive Shed on 24
September.
At the briefing hall, Minister Maj-Gen Aung Min briefed the
Prime Minister on matters relating to Ywahtaung Diesel Locomotive Shed and
Insein Locomotive Shed. Next, General Manager of Ywahtaung Diesel Locomotive
Shed U Myint Khine and General Manager of Insein Locomotive Shed U Saw Valintine
briefed the Prime Minister and party on maintenance of diesel locomotives, the
workshop’s undertakings in respect to the guidance given by Head of State Senior
General Than Shwe during his tour, purchase of machines for maintenance of
locomotives and production of spare parts in cooperation with industrial zones
and related ministries.
In connection with the reports presented by the general
manager of Insein Locomotive Shed, Minister Maj-Gen Aung Min gave a
supplementary report. Next, the Prime Minister gave instructions on the
requirements to be fulfilled by the Government for ensuring production of diesel
locomotives inside the country. Technicians and service personnel were to
manufacture diesel locomotives inside the country based on technical know-how
and experiences. If the workshops of Myanma Railways, state-owned factories and
private-owned ones take cooperative measures, diesel locomotives can be
manufactured.
Next, the Prime Minister and party inspected diesel
transmission workshop, diesel electrical workshop and air-conditioner workshop.
Next, they looked into carriage spare parts manufactured by the workshops under
Myanma Railways, locomotives and spare parts by private factories and Monywa
industrial zone and imported spare parts.
Afterwards, the Prime Minister oversaw diesel locomotives and
building of rail car and gave necessary instructions. Next, the Prime Minister
and party left for Mandalay by train and proceeded to Nay Pyi Taw.
